The difference between heresy and treachery is ignorance.

Fear is your servant and your tool, not your ally. Let all fear while you do not. The Inquisition is feared, it fears nothing save to fail in its duty!

Let the drums of war echo in our bootsteps,
Let the fires of war burn in our hearts,
Let the Emperor’s light shine from our gunbarrels,
And let the enemies of the Imperium die.

                              Imperial Guard marching song.

The Bright Sojourner Mission - Chapter 3

Labyrinthine are the ways of chaos; serpentine are the bindings of heresy.
Pure is the light of the Emperor, the sword that cuts through confusion.

The Bright Sojourner is a fleet light destroyer, a multi-role deep space warship. As such, it is nowhere near as large as the true imperial fleet capital ships nor the legendary battle barges of the Adeptus Astartes. Even with the directions I find myself doubling back several times as corridors end in unexpected bulkheads or equipment bays. On my third time through a large central corridor a crewman approaches me, an uncertain look on his face.

Commanders and people of rank are frequently strong-willed and mentally guarded. When serving with or against such people watch them when they are at ease and unguarded or surprised and unready. At these moments will their minds reveal themselves to your mind and you will know best how to judge them.

Self-denial and indulgence; rage and tranquility; vanity and humility; all these are signs of corruption. Test everyone, be suspicious of every motive, question every action. You are the Inquisition – you may not rest upon assumptions. The Imperium depends upon your certainty. You must dig until you have found the truth. And do not fear the depths and the darkness, for no matter how deep nor dark nor foul, there is always exterminatus.

Hi to all. I'm a long time fan of the 40k setting. I've just bought Dark Heresy and will soon be running a new campaign. One of the things I do when I start a campaign is to write some setting fiction to help my players get the feel of my take on the setting. Anyway, this is the start of my story. If folks could read it and give some feedback, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

If the valley had a name, Wazzdog didn’t know it, and he definitely didn’t care in any case. Walled in on the east and west by towering shear-sided mountains, the valley was a long, narrow strip of land covered in arid grass plains and buffeted by arctic winds that raced through the narrow pass. To the north the valley opened out onto the great frozen steppes, and to the south it narrowed and rose into a series of treacherous paths that lead over glaciers and mountains until they descended again, leading out into the warm southern foothills.

The cherry on his lhostick burned at the acute angle of being burned with purpose, not for pleasure.  Someone smoking a lho for the sheer enjoyment might drag a bit, bogart a bit, savor the flavor, blow a ring.  Cherry tends to flatten off for the casual smoker, a blunted edge of smoldering lhocoal with a hanging ash, square edge of red ember.
