This is a simplified method of determining limits on how much weight a character can carry, lift or push. First, add their toughness bonus to their strength bonus as usual. Second, cube the result. This number is the lifting limit in pounds (not kilos!). The carrying limit is half the lifting limit, and the pushing limit is double the lifting limit. For example: Jarr the assassin has a strength bonus of 4 and a toughness bonus of 3. He adds these together to get 7. He then cubes 7, getting 343. That means he can lift 343 pounds, carry half that (172 pounds) and push double (646 pounds). For those not familiar with algebra or numerical powers, cubing a number means multiplying it by itself twice. 7x7x7 is the same as 7 cubed. 4x4x4 is 4 cubed. 95x95x95 is 95 cubed. And so on... It is best to have a calculator handy. Alternatively, you can use the table below. (numbers have been rounded for ease of division and multiplication)
This chart is usefull with characters of
creatures that have unnatural characteristics allowing them to achieve
scores over 20, which the original rules did not explain.
