So at the request of one of my players, I built this background option to expand upon Guardsmen from Forge Worlds a bit. Feedback is most definitely appreciated.
Rather than use a pre-made background package for their characters, in my gaming group I allowed them to make their own, under my supervision as the GM. Here is the example one I made for my character, a Noble born Arbiter called Eli Morgenstern. I realise that it is quite powerful, but I allowed my group to make theirs so provided they make up some good background which fits it.
Many people don't like the constraints they feel DH puts on the ability
to execute a charactrer concept worthy of being trained and trusted by
one of the most powerful organizations in the galaxy. I never had this
problem, and only recently realized why. Every single character in my
games have a background package. Clearly, this would severely limit
the sort of characters everyone could play is restricted to the three
per class in the IH. However, all of my players are free to choose
from any of those packagaes, but if they don't then I create one based
on the back-story they develop for their characters.
I found this all in an old White dwarf mag and thought its sounded
really cool. Im asking people if they think it would be better as a
background package or as an Elite advance? (similiar to the calixian
xeno-arcanist). Both would be for a Tech-priest character.
The planet Malfi is a world not only of Byzantine courtly intrigue,
but of grinding poverty . Many seek to rise above the seething hive
underbellies, but scope for social advancement is limited. Thus, the
poor often turn to crime.
The Hetaireia Lexis is one of the most respected and prestigious
teaching institutions in the entire Calixis Sector. Formed by Lord
Sector Caracella over 600 years ago, it offers training courses in
highly morally questionable topics such as Xeno studies, Theology and
Comparative Historical Heresies. The Inquisition monitors the various
institutions which operate under the ambit of the Hetaireia Lexis very
carefully indeed, and many Inquisitors are actively looking for excuses
to shut the entire institution down and burn its staff at the stake.
There are certain planets in the Imperium where the use of airborne
vehicles, flyers and skimmers offers more than just tactical advantage
or convenience. For the inhabitants of these Imperial worlds, being a
skilled aviator is more than just a luxury: it is an absolute necessity
and a way of life.
