Sometimes, you just don't want to waste a bolter shell on a heretic. But you also don't want to switch weapons to deal with the problem. If you face those kinds of problems, a combi-weapon upgrade might be just the thing for your acolyte.

Base + Combi + Upgrade

Base Weapon Class: the class of the weapon that will receive the upgrade.

Combi-weapon Class: the class of the weapon that will be added to the base weapon.

Weight: how one should determine the new weight of the combi-weapon.

The table above shows how different weapons can be combined to create a new weapon.

For example: an autogun, a basic SP weapon, could be combined with a laspistol to create a weapon capable of dealing impact and energy damage. The new weight of this weapon would amount to: 3,5 kg. (autogun) + 1,5 kg. (laspistol) + 1 kg. (Combi-weapon upgrade) = 6 kg.

Only one of the weapons that make up a combi-weapon can be discharged during a round. Each round, a switch can be flicked on the combi-weapon as a free action, to select which weapon will be used.

Each weapon that makes up a combi-weapon can jam separately. Because of the added complexity of the combi-weapon upgrade, it is a -10 to BS to unjam a weapon that is part of a combi-weapon.

If one of the weapons that make up the combi-weapon is destroyed, the entire combi-weapon is destroyed.

The base weapon class is dominant, even if a pistol is part of a combi-weapon the combi-weapon cannot be used in close combat. If you do not have the correct Talent to operate a part of the combi-weapon you suffer the usual -20 penalty.

avatar Good Job, i will be expecting the first Autogun/Flamerpistol weapons soon.

I would increase the cost of the upgrade. And reduce the number of shots in the added weapon ( 1/2 rounded down) weapon.

I would add for the untrained a penalty of 1/2 action when switching fire modes between weapons.

In case of a Weapons jam, Both weapons should be jammed, and a BS -10 test to unjam it (the weapon is more complex.)

Most common weapons fall below the 250 thrones threshold, given that you need to supply the 2 weapons for the upgrade I think you will end up around 500 thrones per combi-weapon, more if you use an exotic base weapon (like a bolter). To me that is a fair choice, 2 common weapons combined or one exotic weapon.

And reduce the number of shots in the added weapon ( 1/2 rounded down) weapon.

Yeah, I played around with the idea of requiring that the added weapon should have the compact upgrade. Maybe that is still the way to go. Lasgun with a compact combat shotgun does evoke a nice image.

I would add for the untrained a penalty of 1/2 action when switching fire modes between weapons.

The fire selector upgrade doesn't require this, besides if you cannot use the base or added weapon you suffer a penalty.

The upgrade is intended to offer more flexibility, so I considered the above (the -10 BS sounds great), but decided against it.

But, you can always change what you don't like and using the upgrade in your game will show if it is workable or not.

avatar Made some modifcation to the upgrade. Editing on-line proved very difficult as the last paragraph shows
